I wasn’t exactly sure if I needed to make my Charachorder CC2 wireless, but after I hooked it up to the (premium white) SterlingKey the answer is a resounding yes. It’s just so much easier to pick up and use the keyboard now. The device itself works perfectly and has the qualities of a “labour of love” which elevates the product above what the big enterprises are typically able or willing to produce. Other such products are the Synthstrom Deluge and the Woovebox, to name a few. The thing to note is that SterlingKey is hefty (most of the heft is from the battery). Bigger and heavier than you would expect, with sharp edges. Making it significantly smaller would probably require custom hardware parts (money) and reduce the battery life. I would love to see a more rounded case, which would also make it feel smaller. I had bit of a scare when I dropped the SterlingKey from the table today and it went dark. The case was intact but the positive battery terminal was bent out of contact and one of the battery retainer tabs got snapped off. Bending the terminal back to its original position and gluing the tab back with some super glue made it as good as new. You are still better off not dropping it.

Because of my disability I need to use a macropad with lots of buttons on the arm of my chair while creating digital art. However, it was impossible to find a 24-key macropad with Bluetooth functionality. Now, with the SterlingKey, I have a fully functional Bluetooth macropad! I love that the button instantly switches Bluetooth devices. This thing is so handy, I’m excited to bring it with me wherever I go. Also, the creator was a huge help with any questions I had. Thanks so much!

So far I am very happy with this order. Just got it out of the box and after a couple of steps listed in the instructions it just started to work. Even shows a battery level in the Bluetooth devices list.

SterlingKey is a Bluetooth adapter. It adapts to Bluetooth that which is wire-bound. And indeed it does that, exactly like you would want it to (or better!). While the case is somewhat brittle if you just want to toss it into a backpack, what’s inside is quite clever. With just a large battery and a PCB, it cleverly turns any keyboard (or most input devices) into a wireless Bluetooth one. My Keyboardio Atreus is working flawlessly with it, on Windows, Linux, and Android devices. Even showing up with its own name in the Bluetooth discovery. The battery life is great, I suspect, as I haven’t yet managed to deplete it!

Already for a month since I enjoy using this Sterling-Key powering and connecting my Ducky One 2 SF. Great job! Connecting was easy. Also changing the sleep timer is easy and comfortable with the online updater. Also great service, when needed. Thumbs up! Thank you.

A niche product doing everything to fill the niche, no matter if coupled with a phone, laptop or a desktop machine, no matter if typing happens on a Dell 216, Lenovo Trackpoint USB or ZSA Voyager.

Device works exactly as advertised. Good build quality, comes with a Samsung 21700 cell, or you can run it off of USB power. I’ve had no issues with it. Shipping was surprisingly only like two days (EU > USA). I had a question and Alex was super fast to respond and very helpful (info also on the forum). +1 recommendation

The little guy does the job that it’s set up to do and it does it well. As a mechanical keyboard enthusiast, this device is a must-have for anyone that shares this same hobby. Kudos to Alex, the creator, for his commitment and diligence throughout the purchase experience.

  1. Headline: Works perfectly

I wasn’t exactly sure if I needed to make my Charachorder CC2 wireless, but after I hooked it up to the (premium white) SterlingKey the answer is a resounding yes. It’s just so much easier to pick up and use the keyboard now.

    • Thank you very much for your detailed review! I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
The sharper edges was actually a design choice insired by the Mac Mini. Earlier versions of the enclosure were smoother, it’s more of a personal preference. I can always print some more and send you extra cases if you ever want to switch! You are right about the size and the weight. It is mostly the battery. While the PCB is custom-made, due to the power consumption of the controller a hefty battery is used, which increases the size. Even if I made the board smaller, the limiting factor is the battery size.
I’ve drop tested it and indeed it should be fine. The battery retainers are there mostly to keep the battery in place during shipment, because there have been several times that the terminals were bent during bumpy shipments. It would be fine even if you didn’t glue it back, but I’m glad it’s like new now!

  3. Headline: Absolute perfection

I had some questions before purchasing the Sterling Key, and I got a response back from the owner the same day I asked. I placed my order, and I received the product within a week. That’s faster than most domestic shipping services, even though it was shipped internationally.

When I got the Sterling Key, it turned on immediately, connected right away, and has worked flawlessly since. I can’t recommend this product enough. It’s exceptional.

  5. Great product!
    Data transmission: works great.
    Device feedback: is fast!
Vibration feedback: Just genius (one can be sure of the commands/input, one is trying to make –turning-on/off, connected or not, pairing, changing connections–
Wishes: Me personally would like a shorter version, without a battery compartment and the USB-A positioned horizontaly.
Very thankful to the creator of the device, it just makes life a little better!

  7. Headline: Outstanding device with outstanding support

Had a brand new model keyboard that had some hiccups but support was basically instantaneous and the device works even better than I expected

  8. This is a great device backed by an amazing community. Any issue I encountered, the creator personally took the time to respond and work through it with me until we found a solution. While I do wish it was a bit more plug-and-play for the average consumer—so I could easily recommend it to all my friends—it does require some super surface level tinkering knowledge to troubleshoot. That said, if you’re into keyboards, chances are you’ve already picked up some of those skills along the way.

Even if you’re not confident in your troubleshooting abilities, don’t be intimidated! The Discord/Support channels are incredibly welcoming and helpful, even for non-technical users. If you’re willing to learn, there’s plenty of guidance to get you up and running.

  17. I can’t say enough about the Bluetooth keyboard adapter! I was wishing for something like this to exist and I couldn’t find it anywhere. Then I stumbled across Sterling Key and it works just as good as I hoped! So much better than a KVM with a 2-second delay. It’s instant switching between 3 Bluetooth computers or devices.

  18. It worked perfectly for our needs. We attached an RFID reader, connected it to our tablet, and that’s it! Now, employees can clock in using their RFID or NFC tags, saving us the cost of purchasing an expensive tablet.
